Our Story
We started raising dairy goats in 2004. We moved out of SW Houston to our acreage in July of 2004 and by September of the same year had our first goats. Like almost every other dairy goat family that we know of, we started with 4H and wanting milk for our family. That is the line, at least. We had already been to two shows and mom was hooked!
We have been so humbled by the people who have encouraged us and invested in us, both in terms of time and blood lines. We would be nowhere without the help and encouragement of these well established breeders and carry forward with pride the legacy handed down. We look forward to the time when we will be able to invest in others as well.
Though our first love was showing, we have never lost sight of the fact that we are raising dairy goats. Looking like a dairy animal is more than a linear appraisal score to us. We demand proof in the milk pail. As we hope one day to have a substantial part of our family income generated by Swede Farm Dairy, we have no tolerance for an animal that returns only beauty for what has been invested in them. We need to see it in lots of milk and good milk at that!
So You Want To Buy One Of Our Goats?
As we are still growing our herd, we will be retaining a good number of doe kids born. Most buck kids will be for sale. Generally speaking we won't be offering buck kids from first fresheners for sale. If you see a first freshener that you are particularly interested in, we will take deposits on a buck out of that first freshener, but we must reserve the right to make our final decision on that sale after the doe has freshened. Each year we will offer a limited number of milkers as well.We practice CAE prevention and test for CAE and CL yearly. Kids are reserved with $50.00 deposit, with the balance due upon notification of birth. If the balance is not received within 2 weeks the kid will be offered to someone else. Should your choice(s) not be available, your deposit will be refunded.
No refunds of deposits on canceled orders. If any animal is found to be genetically unsound or infertile it will be replaced, contingent upon receiving a vet’s signed statement that the problem was of genetic origin. All shipping costs and health certificates are the buyer’s responsibility.
