Swede Farm
Welcome to our family farm
We sell quality dairy goat products in Austin area farmers markets.
Our intention in starting Swede Farm Dairy was to provide our family with the freshest, best tasting dairy products to be had. We wanted more for our table than mass produced factory food, we wanted wholesome food that we could take responsibility for. We wanted a way to return to a time when families were intricately connected with what they ate and drank. We found a deep sense of satisfaction in being able pour a glass of cold milk for our children and know exactly how that milk was made, what the goats ate, how they lived, and the work that went into getting the milk from the pasture to the table.
Now we want to bring that milk from our farm to your table. While it may not be quite the same as milking the goat yourself, we think it is something pretty special to be able to drink milk produced locally from goats that you can come out and pet! We work hard to provide milk that is fresh and minimally processed. About the only "tinkering" we do with our milk is to turn some of it into yogurt! So here it is, a labor of love from our hands to yours...Swede Farm Dairy Goat Milk!

We are often asked at Farmers Markets if we sell raw milk. There seems to be a great deal of confusion as to the reason why raw milk is not sold at farmers markets. The reason that raw milk cannot be sold at a market is not due to market rules, city ordinances or politics. The reason that raw milk cannot be sold at a farmers market is that it violates state law.
The Texas Administrative Code, Title 25, Part 1, Chapter 217, Subchapter B, Rule §217.32 states:
"Raw milk may be sold by the milk producer directly to the consumer only at the point of production, i.e., at the farm, provided that such producer has been issued a Grade A Raw for Retail Milk Permit in accordance with §217.91 of this title (relating to Permits), and complies with all the sections in this chapter relating to Grade A Raw for Retail Milk."
How we sell… We sell pasteurized milk at farmers markets and at the farm. We acquired the additional licensing to sell pasteurized because we knew that there was a segment of the population that desired the benefits of fresh local goat milk but who cannot drink their milk raw. We sell raw milk on the farm, in accordance with the state law prohibiting sales of raw milk off-farm. We believe that this law is unduly restrictive. It does, though, have it’s merits. For all it’s likely benefits, raw milk is also a great medium for bacterial growth. It is wise to visit the farm from which your milk is produced so that you can see for yourself the care with which your milk is produced. We pride ourselves on total and complete transparency in the production of our milk and welcome visitors to the farm so that they can have complete confidence in the milk they drink.
We have found raw milk consumers to be a very cohesive and supportive group of people. We have committed customers that have offered to pick up milk, that has been pre-purchased, for other customers that cannot make it to the farm. If you would like to be put in contact with customers in the Austin area who are already picking up milk at our farm please contact us through this email link.
